The Valor Football team opened their much-anticipated fall season with a 51-0 victory over Doherty in Colorado Springs. The offense was sparked by efficient quarterback play, while the defense proved dominant on the road in the opener.
Starting quarterback Sean McNair paced the passing game with a 7-for-9 performance, throwing for 84 yards and 2 touchdowns. Colton Allen was perfect in relief as he went 7-for-7 for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns. Grant Simmons was the leading target through the air catching five balls for 48 yards and three scores. Landon Turnwall added four catches for 40 yards and a touchdown.
Running back Gavin Sawchuck ran the ball seven times for 122 yards for 17.4 yards per carry average and a score. He also added three receptions for 12 yards.
The defense allowed 39 net yards on 40 offensive plays for the Spartans, an average of only one yard per play. Jordan Norwood led the Eagles in tackles with eight, including one tackle for loss. Cayden Hawkins was the most active defender with six tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two tackles for loss.
The Eagles overwhelmed Doherty in the first quarter with 23 points, and added 21 more in the second quarter. The scoring started with this play-action touchdown:
