Valor Boys Basketball will have a new look this season along with some new faces. Coming off back to back State Championship game appearances the Eagles enter this season having lost over 90 percent of their scoring and rebounding production as well as total minutes played from a year ago. This year's team returns the following full time roster members from last year's team. Grant Stevens (Jr), Drake Bebout (Sr) Chase Mandes (Sr) Reid Stemberger (Sr) Jacoby Rockwood (So) and Titus Huard (So). New faces the fans will see on this year's team are Juniors Ashton Johnson, Brenden Beuhler, Clayton Lumpkin, Carson Medina and JT Cross who returns from playing his Freshman year. Noah Mahleberg is the lone Freshman on this year's Varsity roster. This year's schedule looks to be exciting and challenging yet again with several of Colorado's Pre season top 10 ranked 6A teams on the slate. These match ups include the home opener vs local rival Rock Canyon HS on Tuesday, December 9 at 7:00 pm. The Eagles will then go through the gauntlet of back to back bracket play tournaments before Christmas break. The Mullen Holiday Classic (Dec 11-13) and the historic Cherry Creek HS Holiday tournament (Dec 18-20) where the Eagles defeated Mountain Vista in a thriller overtime Championship game in last year's tournament. The Eagles non conference schedule also includes key match ups at home vs Thunder Ridge coming off the holiday break along with Mountain Vista and Regis rivalry games on the road. Conference play begins on Jan 12th vs Chatfield. Coach Platt expects the JeffCo league to be very strong this year with Ralston Valley, Arvada West and Columbine all returning multiple starters.
Coach Platt is entering his third season leading the Eagles program with a 50 - 7 overall record. The Eagles went on the road and defeated Sand Creek HS 87-60 in the season opener on Tuesday night in Colorado Springs. Junior Ashton Johnson led the way with 29 points including an impressive 8/11 made 3pt shots along with 3 assists and 0 Turnovers.
