Emergency Action Plan: Stadium/Lower Field

AED for Stadium
Emergency Personnel:
Certified athletic trainer, coaches, campus safety and team physicians (only during varsity football games)

The certified athletic trainer will act as the lead in all emergency situations. They are the ones who will decide if 911 needs to be called and instruct others how to help.

o   In the event that the certified athletic trainer is unavailable, the head coach will be the one in charge

When a team physician is present, will they will become the leader if an emergency situation arises

Emergency Equipment:
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is located on the wall outside of the Athletic Training Clinic. Other equipment maintained in the Athletic Training Room located directly through the doors on the south/east side of the stadium.

Fixed access to AED located on the right wall outside of the athletic training clinic.

During all home varsity games, the AED will be on the cart with the athletic trainer


Roles of the First Responders:
1. Immediate care of the injured or ill student-athlete. Most qualified at the scene shall assume this role.
2.  Emergency equipment retrieval – head coach, assistant coach, or administrator (whomever is present and not the one taking care of the patient)
3. Activation of Emergency Medical System (EMS). If possible cardiac emergency, retrieve AED. *In case of cardiac emergency, attach the AED immediately as soon as it is available

      Call 9-1-1 “My name is ____________, I have a medical emergency in the city of Highlands Ranch on the Valor Christian High School campus”. Dispatcher will connect you with the appropriate agency. Be prepared to provide name, address, telephone number; number of individuals injured; condition of injured; first aid treatment; specific directions; other information as requested

o   Landlines are located directly inside the south tunnel: Coach’s offices, Athletic Training Office. 

4. Direction of EMS to scene- administrator or assistant coaches

Open appropriate gates/doors

o   Someone should be at the parking lot entrance from Grace Boulevard to direct EMS. 

Designate one to two people to "flag down" EMS and direct to scene along with

Campus Safety. May be students or coaches

o   There should be additional personnel at the southeast field gate to direct them onto the field and to the injured athlete. 

Scene control: (administrator, game officials or assistant coaches) limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area

Traveling West on Grace Boulevard, turn right into the parking lot just after the lower field, the stadium field will be on the left. Enter through the southeast gate to the field and there will be someone there to direct EMS to the emergency
