In the first match of the week, the Eagles made it 3 in-a-row by beating the Overland Trailblazers in straight sets, 25-11, 25-8, 25-14. Outside hitters
Derek Wright and
Tucker Shearn each had 11 kills in the match as part of an impressive team hitting percentage of .380. Shearn also led the serving attack with 6 aces and added 8 digs to another well rounded performance. Junior
Wyatt Burch added several points to the win with 4 kills on 7 swings for a .429 hitting percentage and 3 aces.
The winning streak came to an end on Thursday when the Cougars from Cherokee Trail came to visit Valor with a 0-3 loss. Despite the Eagles best night of blocking on the season with 8 blocks, the CT squads impressive offense was the difference. Senior
Connor Jessen had a nice night at the net hitting .429 and adding 3 Blocks. Senior
Josh Raahange had a team high 4 blocks and junior
Andrew Metz had double digits digs with 10.
After the week, Coach
Scott Peluso said "We are fortunate to be in the Centennial League that has 3 of the top 5 teams in the state that we get to play twice. The level of competition is very high, and we know what we need to perform at our best every night to compete. We will keep improving and soon we will be at a place where we are not just competing at that level but upsetting some teams."
The Eagles have a busy week coming up as they play 3 away games and a tournament. They are at Stargate on Monday, at Eaglecrest on Tuesday and play Littleton Public Schools at Heritage High School on Thursday. On Saturday, the Valor Boys travel to Douglas County High School's tournament to play against some of the best teams in the state in a field that has 5 of the top ranked teams.
