In the final game of the regular season, Valor faced their long time rivals from Regis Jesuit.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first as junior Maddux Charles scored on the power play to give Valor the 1-0 lead.
Regis tied the game early in the second period but less than two minutes later, Valor sophomore Bauer Bodhaine gave the Eagles their lead back to make it 2-1. Later in the same period, junior Maddux Charles scored his second power play goal of the game to up Valor's lead to 3-1.
The Eagles dominated the third period of play including five separate breakaway attempts but received nothing to show for it as the Raiders goaltender was up to the task and kept his team within reach. Just when it seemed that the roof was about to fall in on Regis, the Raiders responded with a power play goal of their own to reduce Valor's lead to 3-2.
The Eagles never faltered as sophomore Bauer Bodhaine scored his second goal of the game on a breakaway to give Valor a 4-2 lead.
With less than two minutes remaining and needing to increase their firepower, Regis pulled their goaltender in favor of an extra attacker.
Valor had little trouble dealing with this challenge as junior Hoyt Sorensen scored into the Raider's empty net to give g the Eagles a 5-2 lead and the final score.
Sophomore goaltender Lucas Jordan was solid throughout the game making 21 saves for the win. The Eagles power play went 2 for 4 on the night.
Valor finishes the regular season with an overall record of 12-7 and a 4-2 record in conference play. The Eagles are currently ranked No 3 in the state.
Valor's been lead offensively by junior Hoyt Sorensen (16 goals & 24 assists for 40 points), senior captain Drew Jenkins (17 goals & 20 assists for 37 points, junior Maddux Charles (21 goals & 13 assists for 34 points), senior Ronan Hirschfield (14 goals & 15 assists for 29 points), freshman Dawson Charles (8 goals & 16 assists for 24 points) and sophomore Bauer Bodhaine (6 goals & 10 assists for 16 points).
Sophomores Lucas Jordan and Landon Reichenbach shared the goaltending duties for most of the season. Jordan finished with a 3.01 goals against average and a save percentage of .873. Reichenbach had a goals against average of 1.65 with a save percentage of .922
Valor will now wait to see how the remaining 5A games in the state turn out before the seeding for the State Tournament is completed.
The CHSAA Hockey State Tournament bracket will be released next Monday, February 17 and the First Round Playoffs will begin Thursday, February 20
