After an eighteen day layoff since their last game, there was legitimate concern over how the Eagles would kick-start the postseason. Entering the State Tournament as the No 3 seed, Valor was matched up against a talented and very determined No 6 Heritage squad.
After a scoreless first period, freshman Dawson Charles, senior Drew Jenkins and junior Hoyt Sorensen tallied markers for Valor to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the third period.
As expected, Heritage pushed back hard with two goals to make it a one-goal game, but senior Drew Jenkins added his second of the game with 4:37 left on the clock, then completed his hat trick two minutes later. After Heritage pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker, senior Elijah Fischer iced the game for Valor by scoring into the empty net for the 6-2 win.
Sophomore Lucas Jordan was strong throughout the game making 27 saves for the victory. Valor out shot their opponent 45-29.
The Eagles will play in the State Semifinals on Saturday evening at Ed Robson Arena in Colorado Springs against No 2 Monarch. The Coyotes swept the two game series from the Eagles during the regular season.
Saturday's winner will advance to the State Championship game on Monday night at the University of Denver's Magness Arena.
